CookMail Installation

Requirement:
1. Permission to run CGI scripts.
2. C Compiler (such as gcc or cc).
Installation:
1. Run:
   
   make
   in cookmail directory. make is an Unix build-in program. If your system has gcc installed, please change
   CC=cc
   in Makefile to
   
   CC=gcc
   then run make.
   To compile the Lite version of Cookmail, please run:
   
   make LITE=-DLITE
   

   Copy the executable binary cookmail to your CGI script directory.
   If you are running the Lite version, jump to step 5.

   In your HTTP document root:
   

   ln -s /tmp tmp
   To prevent this tmp directory being visible to the outside world, create a cron job which creates a default html file such as .html index.htm index.html default.htm or default.html in this directory. One such command is:
   

   touch /tmp/.html

   Create an cron job which removes /tmp/owebm*.html daily.

   Read Potential Problems and Their Fixes.

Requirement:
1. Windows NT Administrator privilege, if you are an NT user.
2. An SMTP/POP3 server.
Optional:
1. Win32 C/C++ compiler (such as Borland C++ version 5 or above, Visual C++ version 4 or above). I have provided a default executable, but you may want to modify the source code in case your system configuation is different.
Installation:
The procedure described here is quite general. Detailed installation guide is in README file of cookmail.zip:
1. Included with this package, there is a file called blat15i.zip. This is a program by Mark Neal and Pedro Mendes. Follow the instructions in README file of blat15i.zip to install COOKBLAT.EXE. However, do not use BLAT.EXE in blat15i.zip because it has some bugs. Use COOKBLAT.EXE I provided instead. It is very important to copy COOKBLAT.EXE to either C:\WINNT or C:\WINNT\COMMAND32. Otherwise, CookMail may have trouble finding and running this program. Windows 9x users just need to copy it to somewhere specified in PATH.
2. Copy cookmail.exe to a CGI directory. Starting from version 2.13c, there are four versions of CookMail for NT on intel.

   cookmail.exe	yes
   cookmail-lite.exe	yes
   cook.exe	no
   cook-lite.exe	no

   If one regular version of CookMail failed, please try the other one. Do the same if you want to install the lite version. The version of CookMail installed can be identified by running the executable on the command line.

   If you installed a LITE version, jump to step 5.

3. Make sure C:\TEMP exists. In your web server, create a virtual directory /tmp which is an alias of C:\TEMP.
4. Schedule a program which removes C:\TEMP\owebm*.html daily.
